I know you are saying “what the hell is he talking about?” Yes, I admit I like to download music and movies. I have no idea what it is about downloading. Maybe it’s the thrill of getting something for free. Man I don’t know, I just know that I have a problem. The biggest problem is that I’m an artist too, but I never relied on it to pay the bills. I always had a job, rap is my hobby. I know now your faces are all fucked up, well don’t point the finger at me till you look in the mirror. Ok, this habit really started since the music that was coming out wasn’t worth my hard earned money. All real hip hop heads know what I’m talking about or just good music fans know what I’m saying. Being a fan of music period is the issue here. I like to be the first one with music or feel like the first one with a certain CD or movie before everybody else. So I guess my problem really started when I was buying bootlegs back in the day. Now all I have to do is go home and turn the computer on. Maybe I should be sending this to the industry, if they were making better music I probably would consider buying the music coming out. Don’t get me wrong I do buy certain albums or movies from the store sometimes it just depends on the artist or the movie. Please Help!

One Response to “Download Addiction”

I agree with the part about the music not being worth the money they want us to pay for it. Once you buy a couple dud albums on the strength of a single or the strength of the artist’s name it scars you. It’s happened to me on more than one occasion. I’m to the point now where I don’t buy anything I can’t listen to or watch first. Simple as that. The other half of that equation would be the fact that it’s the best way to find new artists and music especially in regards to underground hip hop. It was nearly impossible to find anything other than local acts back when we had walk-mans and cassette tapes. Now with the advent of music in digital format I’m able find new music all the time. I buy what I like to support the artist that created it and the shit I don’t like I don’t purchase. No need to worry about it being stored on my hard drive either… I mean I just said I don’t like the shit. I very rarely support artists signed to major labels. I’m talking maltese falcon rare. 99% of major label releases are garbage or pop music anyway. Another reason I don’t support major label releases is the fact that they keep winning these ridiculous lawsuits where downloading one CD costs a defendant millions of dollars. I try to stick with music that’s independently released or underground. I like bangin’ that shit other cats have to come ask me about! Real musicians make money on the road… Get out and grind homie. Forget about the CD sales and concentrate on mastering your craft.
